The index ranks passports based on how many of 199 countries and regions worldwide their holders can visit without a prior visa. Japanese passport holders can enter 191 countries without a visa. Singapore ranked second with 190 countries, followed by South Korea and Germany with 189.<\/p>\n
In 2019, Japan and Singapore shared first place. However, in June 2019, Japanese passport holders no longer required a visa for Brazil, leaving Japan as the sole leader. The weakest passport was the Afghan passport, which granted visa-free access to only 26 countries.<\/p>\n
