\nThe Irish passport card is a travel document that Irish citizens can use for certain travel instead of a standard passport. It is the size of a credit card. You can use the Irish passport card for travel within the European Union, the European Economic Area (including Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway), and Switzerland. You do not need a passport to enter the UK. However, airlines and shipping companies may request proof of identity at check-in. Check with your airline or shipping company to find out which forms of identification are accepted.<\/p>\n
For travel to non-EEA countries you will need your standard Irish passport.<\/p>\n
APPLICATIONS FOR THE Irish PASSPORT CARD
\nThe passport service is processing online applications for all passport types again. Please expect delays in submitting applications.<\/p>\n
Post offices do not accept passport express applications, and you cannot visit the passport office in person. If you wish to apply for a new passport, you can only use the online passport service. The Passport Express service will resume later this summer.<\/p>\n

If you urgently need a passport for travel (due to the death or serious illness of a family member or urgent medical treatment abroad), please contact the passport service via web chat.<\/p>\n
REGULATE
\nAdults and children can obtain passports. However, as a child (under 18 years of age), you can only obtain a passport as part of your standard passport package.<\/p>\n
You will need a valid Irish passport that is not due to expire within six months. The personal details you provide when applying for a passport must match those in your passport. The passport is valid for five years or until your passport expires, whichever is shorter.<\/p>\n
If you use your passport when traveling, you must provide your passport number when checking in online.<\/p>\n
LOST OR STOLEN CARD
\nIf your passport card is lost, stolen or damaged, please complete the relevant section of the online application form with this information when applying for a new passport card.<\/p>\n
You are not applying for a new card. Please report the loss or theft of your card to the passport service.<\/p>\n
PRICES
\nThe adult passport costs \u20ac35. If applying outside of Ireland, an additional \u20ac5 shipping fee will apply. You can pay by debit or credit card.<\/p>\n
The adult passport package, consisting of a 10-year passport and a 5-year passport card for persons over 18 years of age, costs \u20ac100.<\/p>\n
The children's passport package, consisting of a 5-year passport and a passport card for persons under 18, costs \u20ac45. An additional \u20ac5 shipping fee applies.<\/p>\n
HOW TO APPLY

You can use the Irish passport card when traveling in the European Union, the European Economic Area (which includes Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and Switzerland.
