URGENT: MVA recalls REAL ID driver's licenses
The Maryland MVA has recalled thousands of driver's licenses marked as REAL ID-compliant because drivers failed to submit the required documents for a REAL ID license. Any recalled license is invalid and may be confiscated upon inspection. Affected residents MUST visit an MVA location as soon as possible with the appropriate REAL ID documents.
To check if your driver's license has been recalled, visit the MVA's REAL ID search.
MARYLAND ID CARD
If you live in Maryland but don't have a driver's license, you can use your Maryland ID as photo ID to prove your identity, age, or address.
On this page you will learn how to apply for, renew and replace your ID card, what fees apply, how to change your name or address and much more.
The Maryland MVA has issued federally compliant REAL ID cards in place of standard ID cards since 2011*. After October 1, 2021, REAL ID will be the only ID that allows you to continue using your driver's license for domestic travel and access to federal and military buildings. For more information on the REAL ID Act, see the MVA's comprehensive guide.
*Immigrants to the U.S. without the required citizenship documents are eligible for a non-federal ID card. The MVA provides information on the requirements and application process.
