The UK National Identity Card and UK National Identity Card are available to all UK residents and are issued in three age categories: 18+ for adults, 16-17 for those aged 16 and over, and Under 16 for children.

We offer two products for all age groups: In addition to the UK ID card, we also offer the Yoti CitizenCard, the new digital ID solution, and a physical UK ID card, which you can use to create your identity in the free Yoti app. You can choose which type of UK ID card you need during the application process.

How do you apply for your first UK identity card online?

1. Start the online application process using the “Apply for your first UK identity card” button.
2. Create your account online (fill out the registration form and activate your account) or log in to your CitizenCard online account if you already have one.
3. Apply for a new CitizenCard, complete a new online application for a UK identity card and make the payment.
4. Choose a verification method – either a digital check of your photo ID or a reference person to confirm your identity.
5. Upload your photo and any required documents.
6. We will verify your identity with photo ID validation or contact your reference person.
7.
We will send you your photo ID by mail.
If you need your ID immediately, apply urgently using our paperless online application system. Please ensure you meet our photo requirements. If you do not have a valid passport (UK or international), photo driving licence (UK or European), or European National Identity Card, you will need a referee – someone who can confirm your identity. Original document(s) or confirmation of your details from official records. If necessary, check that your referee has completed the digital reference declaration form to provide us with their work details. If necessary, ensure that your referee is contactable by phone and email at their workplace during office hours.
