PASSPORT AND IDENTITY CARD

The police passport offices issue passports and identity cards to Swedish citizens. You can apply for and receive your new passport or identity card at any passport office in the country.

APPLICATION
If you are a Swedish citizen over 18 years of age and live in Sweden, you must bring the following:

Valid ID (a valid passport is one of several valid identification documents)
Your old passport, if still valid
Photos are taken at the passport office. Anyone applying for a passport or identity card must appear in person at the police passport office, including children and young people.

WRITTEN CONSENT OF PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
Persons under 18 years of age require the written consent of all parents or guardians.

Payment is made upon application. Most passport offices accept credit cards.

To apply for a passport or identity card, you must book an appointment in advance. New appointment times are published regularly.

DELIVERY TIME
A passport or identity card is usually delivered to the relevant passport office within five business days. Please present your receipt when collecting your passport or identity card.

VALID IDENTIFICATION WHEN APPLYING
When applying for a new passport or identity card, you must be able to present an ID. The following are considered identification documents:

Valid Swedish passport (a temporary passport is not a valid identification document)
Swedish identity card
Valid Swedish driving license
Swedish SIS identity card or an identity card issued by an authority, e.g. the Swedish Tax Agency
If you don't have an ID, your spouse, parents, grandparents, adult siblings (with their own ID), or guardian can confirm your identity. A temporary passport is not a valid identification document when applying for a passport.

TEMPORARY PASSPORT
A temporary passport is only issued for an imminent trip. You need to know how long the passport is valid and whether the country you are traveling to accepts a Swedish temporary passport. The easiest way to obtain this information is from the relevant embassy or travel agency. Only certain passport offices issue temporary passports. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when applying.

LOST AND FOUND PASSPORTS AND ID CARDS
If you lose your passport or identity card, please report it to the police. It will then be blocked. When you report the loss, apply for a new passport or identity card.

If you find your old passport or identity card, please report it to the police. If you have received a new passport or identity card, you must hand in the old one for cancellation. The old travel document can no longer be used.

If you lose your passport or identity card abroad, please contact the nearest Swedish embassy or consulate.
