In Singapore, every citizen and resident aged 15 and over requires a Singaporean identity card. The unique NRIC (National Identification Number) consists of nine alphanumeric characters and serves as an identification number. The second and third digits indicate the year of birth.

Report loss and replacement of Singaporean identity card

A replacement application can only be submitted in person to the Immigration and Inspection Authority. Detailed information and procedures for reporting a loss can be found at https://www.ica.gov.sg/documents/ic/loss.

Singapore citizens who have lost their identity card must report the loss in person within 14 days and apply for a replacement. Reporting to the police is only required if you have been the victim of a crime. Otherwise, you can submit a notarized affidavit or report the loss to the ICA. Upon your return to Singapore, please report the loss to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Authority.

Change of name or address in the Singaporean identity card

Name or address changes on your national identity card can only be made directly with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. Holders of a Singapore National Identity Card are responsible for its safekeeping but are not required to carry it. Areas where verification of NRICs is required include passports (immigration officers), polling stations (police officers), and persons performing military service in the Singapore Armed Forces, Police, and Civil Defence.[3] Notwithstanding this, if no identification can be produced, the police may detain suspects until it can be presented either in person or by an authorized representative. Re-registration of NRICs is also required at the age of 30 after completing military service.
