You can only start driving practice after successfully completing the theory test.
APPLYING FOR A LUXEMBOURG DRIVING LICENSE
All driver training and preparation must be completed at a registered driving school. The application for a driver's license (demande en obtention d'un permis de conduire or application for a driver's license) for each driver's license class is submitted upon registration to the driving school, which then sends the signed application to the SNCT.
The following documents are required for the application:
Medical certificate from a licensed physician (maximum three months old)
passport photo
Registration certificate (certificat de résidence) (maximum one month old) from the municipality
Copy of the affidavit (extrait de casier judiciaire) from the police or the country of origin if the residence in Luxembourg is less than five years
Revenue stamp (Timbre de Chancellerie)
Registration fee for driving school
To apply for a category AM or A1 driving license for a moped or light motorcycle, the driver must be at least 16 years old. To apply for a category B car driving license, the driver must be at least 18 years old. Application forms must be signed by a parent or guardian if the applicant is under 18.
THEORY AND PRACTICAL EXAMS
Both the theory and practical exams can be taken in English.
The theory course consists of at least 12 one-hour lessons at the driving school (this can be reduced under certain circumstances). The applicant learns the Luxembourg Code de la Route (Road Traffic Code). The driving school provides the materials and exams, but sample exams are also available online.

PRACTICAL EXAM
After passing the theory test, practical training begins. This consists of at least 16 driving lessons with a driving instructor, followed by a one-hour practical test (in the presence of the driving instructor).
Class B learner drivers aged 17 and over are allowed to practice driving if accompanied by a family member or friend who has held a Class B driving licence for over six years and has not been penalised.
All information about accompanied driving (Conduite accompagnée) (in French)
After successfully completing the practical test, the driver's license is issued, and the new driver receives their license. This is a probationary license, valid for two years. Restrictions apply to novice drivers, and the blood alcohol limit is lower.
During the probationary period, a novice driver must complete a mandatory driver training course at the Colmar-Berg Driver Training Center (CFC). The exams can be taken in English (please inform the center when making an appointment). The course must be completed within two years of obtaining the driver's license, but no earlier than three months (or if the driver has at least 3,000 km of driving experience) after the initial license is issued.
