APPLY FOR YOUR FIRST GB DRIVING LICENSE
Get your first provisional driving licence for mopeds, motorcycles, and cars online from the DVLA. To apply, you must meet the following requirements:
Be at least 15 years and 9 months old
Be able to read license plates from 20 meters away

If you already have a provisional driving licence, you do not need to apply for it again to drive.

PREPARATION
The online application costs £34. You can pay with MasterCard, Visa, Electron, or Delta debit or credit cards.
You need:
an ID card if you do not have a valid British biometric passport
Your residential addresses for the last three years
Your social security number, if known
After your application, you will receive a confirmation email from the DVLA. You may be asked to complete a survey via email, but you can decline.
Your UK driving licence should arrive within a week if you apply online. It may take longer if the DVLA conducts additional checks.
WHEN YOU CAN DRIVE WITH A UK DRIVING LICENSE
The rules depend on your age and the type of vehicle. Check which vehicles you are allowed to drive and when before you start learning.
VIEW OR SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR UK DRIVING LICENSE
With this service you can:
View your driving records, e.g., which vehicles you are allowed to drive
Check your penalty points or driving bans
Create a driver's license verification code to share your driving records with others, such as a car rental company
The verification code is valid for 21 days.
You need:
Your UK driving licence number
Your social security number
The postcode on your driver's license
INFORMING DVLA ABOUT YOUR CHANGE OF ADDRESS: STEP BY STEP
You'll need to update your driver's license, vehicle registration document (V5C), your vehicle tax Direct Debit, and other details when you move. You don't need to inform us if you're moving temporarily (for example, if you're living elsewhere while studying), as long as we can still contact you at your permanent address. You can continue driving while you wait for your new documents to arrive.

REPLACE LOST, STOLEN, DAMAGED OR DESTROYED DRIVER'S LICENSE

If your driver’s license is stolen, you should contact the police.
To renew your driver’s license you need:
Residence in Great Britain (there is a different service in Northern Ireland)
No driving license suspension for any reason
£20 by debit or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Electron or Delta)
State your address of residence for the last three years
Provide your driver's license number, social security number and passport number, if known
YOUR PHOTO
The DVLA will use your passport photo for your new driving licence if all of the following apply:
Your driver's license expires in two years
You hold a valid British passport – you must provide your passport number
You allow the DVLA to use your photo
The DVLA will inform you if a suitable electronic photo is unavailable. You will receive a form to submit a new photo.
You can update the photo on your driver's license by using the photo driver's license renewal service.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND YOUR OLD DRIVER'S LICENSE LATER?
If you find your old driving licence after applying for or receiving a replacement, you must return it to the DVLA and explain the incident.

You cannot apply online if your name or title has changed.
You must renew a photo driver's license every 10 years – you will receive a reminder before your current license expires.
